Untersulzbachtal Valley in the Wildkogel Arena, with its natural monument - Untersulzbachtal Waterfall - and its beautiful forests, is an idyllic landscape just waiting to be explored by hikers. Hochfeld Mine, which is also located in Untersulzbachtal, also gives you the opportunity to learn more about the geological riches of the Hohe Tauern mountains.

Located in Hohe Tauern National Park, at the entrance to Untersulzbachtal valley, Untersulzbach Waterfall treats visitors to a wonderful visual spectacle. Alongside this ca. 80 meters-deep waterfall canyon are viewing platforms allowing you to enjoy fantastic views of the thunderous torrents of water.

From Neukirchen am Grossvenediger, you can make your way to Untersulzbach Waterfall, enjoy a family-friendly hike through the Untersulzbachtal and discover the glorious natural setting for yourself.

Look forward to the beautiful forested landscapes of Hohe Tauern National Park, including the impressive sight of Untersulzbach Waterfall.

A new geology theme trail in Untersulzbachtal

The geology theme trail known as the "View through the Tauern Window" leads from Gasthof Schütthof and alongside the imposing Untersulzbach Waterfall Natural Monument, to the historical Hochfeld copper mine.

Info points along this new National Park theme trail provide easily understood insights into the creation of the Hohe Tauern mountains, their geological structure as well as the cultural and historical development of ore and mineral mining in Untersulzbachtal.

Having arrived at the site of the former Hochfeld copper mine, visitors are introduced to the world of mining in former times, as they are the geological development of the Hohe Tauern through history.

The reconstructed and lovingly furnished Miners' Room, as well as the renovated historical mine buildings in the area of the Old Blacksmith's and Kitchens close to the Martinsteg,  are true highlights of this fascinating theme path.

This geology path can be explored on your own from May until the end of October, depending on weather conditions. It is also possible to walk 130 meters deep into the mine itself, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. until the end of September.

Total walking time: ca. 45 minutes. No admission charges.

Beautiful view of the Kleinvenediger and base for numerous hikes to the glacier as well as via the Bettlersteig to Obersulzbachtal.


The hut can be reached from Neukirchen in the direction of Untersulzbachtal. A hut taxi is also offered, if desired.


Hut for up to 12 people, 1 WC, shared shower facilities.


The Stockeralm offers breakfast and hot meals throughout the day (including specialties featuring wild game). Numerous hiking paths head straight out from the hut, including hikes to the glacier and over the Bettlerscharte to Obersulzbachtal.

Rooms rented out in summer, reachable by mountain bike, hunting opportunities, 7 km from the town center.
