The Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail can be tailored entirely to your preferences. Ambitious long-distance hikers can tackle the entire route in several stages, whilst leisurely walkers can explore individual sections as day walks.

Four ‘Light’ stages along the so-called ‘Sonnenweg’ in Neukirchen and Bramberg are easily accessible even in bad weather, during sudden changes in the weather or in the off-season.

In July and August, however, the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is ideal for escaping the hot temperatures in the valley, thanks to its high altitude – it runs mostly between 1,200 m and 2,450 m above sea level.

Alpine hiking gear is required for the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail:

  • Day rucksack (approx. 20 litres) with rain cover
  • Sturdy and comfortable footwear
  • Weather-appropriate and durable clothing, following the layer-on-layer principle. The Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is mostly situated at altitudes between 1,300 m and 2,450 m. This should be taken into account when selecting hiking equipment (particularly clothing).
  • Trekking poles are strongly recommended due to the often long descents
  • Sun and rain protection
  • Ensure you have sufficient provisions and large enough water bottles, as there are not always places to stop for refreshments or water fountains on every stage (e.g. on stages 5 and 7)

Yes, when booking via the official Panorama Trail booking centre, Trail Angels, you can opt for a luggage shuttle service. This service transports luggage (max. 20 kg) from one accommodation to the next.

Please note: The luggage service is not available for the stage locations Panorama Alm, Bürglhütte (only if staying overnight at the hut and not in the valley) and Pinzgauer Hütte. In these cases, luggage is taken directly to the next accommodation.

The Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region is very well connected to the public transport network. There are numerous long-distance train services to Zell am See. From Zell am See, public transport services run hourly to all destinations in the valley between Zell am See and Krimml, and there are also public buses.

The National Park Summer Card is an all-inclusive card and is issued at participating accommodation providers from the first night’s stay. Every day, one of the 60 attractions – including sights, museums and natural wonders, leisure and sports facilities, and mountain railways – can be used or visited free of charge. The National Park Summer Card also entitles holders to free use of all public transport and participating hiking taxis.
